The 'Twisted Logic Podcast' and the Future of Podcasting

Last year, social audio was the newest trend in social media, and it's easy to see why. With the rise of social audio apps like Clubhouse, Spotify Live, Stereo, and Wisdom, people are now able to engage in real-time conversations, discussions, and debates about a wide range of topics. Unlike traditional podcasting, which is typically a one-way conversation, social audio allows for a more interactive and dynamic experience. It's a new way to consume and share information, and it's gaining popularity among podcast listeners worldwide. The rise of social audio has also opened new opportunities for podcasters and content creators, as it allows them to interact with their audience in real-time, creating a more personalized and engaging experience. In this article, we'll take a closer look at social audio and how it has the potential to change the way we communicate and consume information. We'll also introduce you to an exciting new project that is leveraging social audio in an exciting new way – the relaunch of The Twisted Logic Podcast.

So, what exactly is social audio? Social audio refers to the use of audio-based communication platforms and tools for social interaction and engagement. This can include podcasting, live audio streaming, and audio-based social media apps and communities. Social audio allows users to share their voice, listen to others, and engage in conversations in real-time or through recorded content. It enables users to listen to and participate in live audio chats with others, create their own rooms, and even host their own events. Social audio apps like Clubhouse, Spotify Live, Stereo, and Wisdom have become incredibly popular, especially during the pandemic, as it allows people to connect with others and engage in interesting conversations, even when they can't meet in person.

One of the main benefits of social audio is that it allows users to engage in real-time conversations, which creates a sense of immediacy and engagement that is often lacking in traditional podcasting. This immediacy makes social audio an ideal platform for discussing current events, news, and other timely topics. Additionally, social audio also allows users to create their own rooms and host their own events, which gives them more control over the conversations and makes it easier to build communities around specific topics. This feature makes social audio an attractive option for podcasters, as it allows them to interact with their audience in real-time, creating a more personalized and engaging experience.

Clubhouse, Spotify Live, Stereo, and Wisdom are some of the most popular social audio apps available today. Clubhouse, which was launched in 2020, is an app that allows users to join live audio chats on a wide range of topics. It also allows users to create their own rooms, host their own events, and even invite others to speak on their event. Spotify Live, formally Spotify Greenroom, allows users to create live audio rooms and interact with their audience and other users. Stereo is another popular social audio app that allows users to join live audio chats, create their own rooms, and host their own events. Wisdom is a social audio app that is focused on knowledge-sharing, it allows users to join live audio chats on a wide range of topics and also allows users to create their own rooms, host their own events and share their knowledge.

Each of these apps offers a unique set of features and benefits that make them appealing to different groups of users. Clubhouse, for example, is popular among entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and other business leaders, while Spotify Live is more popular among music lovers, the Stereo app is more popular among the younger generation and Wisdom is more popular among professionals who wants to share their knowledge. And there is data to back up their use: According to a report by eMarketer, the use of social audio apps has grown rapidly since their launch. Clubhouse, for example, has seen a significant increase in users since its launch in 2020, with more than 10 million active users by February 2021.

According to a report by App Annie, social audio apps are popular among a wide range of age groups, but particularly among younger generations, with the majority of users falling between the ages of 18 and 34. Regardless of which app you choose, social audio offers a new and exciting way to connect with others and engage in interesting conversations.
From a marketing perspective, social audio has such a low barrier to entry because people love engaging in natural conversations. Social audio is, therefore, a no-brainer for establishing a strong identity, building personal relationships with customers, and proving that you’re authentic and credible as a brand.

Social audio has the potential to change the way people communicate and consume information in a number of ways. One of the key differences between social audio and traditional podcasting is the level of interactivity and engagement. Social audio allows for real-time conversations, discussions, and debates, which creates a sense of immediacy and engagement that is often lacking in traditional podcasting. This immediacy makes social audio an ideal platform for discussing current events, news, and other timely topics. Additionally, social audio also allows users to create their own rooms and host their own events, which gives them more control over the conversations and makes it easier to build communities around specific topics.

Another way in which social audio has the potential to change the way we communicate and consume information is by creating a more personalized and engaging experience for users. With social audio, users can join live audio chats, participate in discussions, and even host their own events. This allows for a more interactive and dynamic experience, as users can connect with others, share their own perspectives, and learn from others. This level of engagement and personalization is not possible with traditional podcasting, which is typically a one-way conversation. As social audio continues to grow in popularity, it has the potential to change the way we communicate and consume information in a significant way.

And the medium is evolving. Stereo is much different today than it was just 6 months ago. We know about trying to build a listenership on these apps, because from February of this year through the early summer, we hosted a live show on the Stereo app once a week (although, if you are reading this, it occurs to me you likely already know this, but if you’re new here, welcome). It was difficult to get people to download a new app to engage with us, and we never found there to be that many listeners looking for new shows.

But it did get us thinking, is there a way to incorporate podcasts and social audio, to continue to have live discussion shows with audience interaction that we love but also have a more structured podcast that allows for people to listen on their time. And to share some of those interactions with the larger audience. And that is where we came up with the idea for the re-launch of The Twisted Logic Podcast.

Over the summer, for a number of personal, legal and professional reasons, we stopped doing the live show. But we’ve been planning our return the entire time, and now we are excited to announce a new project that we hope will leverage the power of social audio in an innovative new way - the relaunch of "The Twisted Logic Podcast". This new concept will be a week-long conversation about a political or cultural issue that is relevant currently. The conversation will start with a podcast where Shawn St. Peter and Josh Ayer (that’s us, the hosts) introduce a topic and give some facts and perspective on it. This structured podcast will be uploaded and available wherever you listen to podcasts every Monday morning. During the week, the hosts will create rooms on different social audio apps and discuss the topic with listeners, getting their input. Thursday night, the hosts will do a long form live show on Spotify Live debating the topic with each other and the listeners (this is the new home for the live shows we were doing on Stereo each week). The social audio segments will be reviewed, and the best will be part of a podcast released on Saturday that is a highlight reel from the week as well as some additional commentary from Shawn and Josh.

This new podcast will be a unique combination of traditional podcasting and social audio, allowing listeners to engage in real-time conversations and discussions about relevant political and cultural issues. We believe that this new format will provide a more personalized and engaging experience for listeners, as they will be able to participate in live audio chats, share their own perspectives, and learn from others. We are excited to bring this new project to our listeners and look forward to the conversations and discussions that will take place on "The Twisted Logic Podcast".

In conclusion, social audio is a growing trend in social media that offers a new way to consume and share information. The rise of social audio apps like Clubhouse, Spotify Live, Stereo, and Wisdom has made it possible for people to engage in real-time conversations, discussions, and debates about a wide range of topics. This interactivity and engagement, which is often lacking in traditional podcasting, makes social audio an ideal platform for discussing current events, news, and other timely topics. Additionally, social audio allows users to create their own rooms and host their own events, which gives them more control over the conversations and makes it easier to build communities around specific topics.

We also introduced a new project, the re-launch of "The Twisted Logic Podcast", that leverages the power of social audio in an innovative new way. This new podcast will be a week-long conversation about a political or cultural issue that is relevant currently, and will provide a more personalized and engaging experience for listeners, as they will be able to participate in live audio chats, share their own perspectives, and learn from others. As social audio continues to grow in popularity, it has the potential to change the way we communicate and consume information in a significant way. We are excited about the opportunities that social audio presents and look forward to seeing how it continues to evolve.

Note – this article was written by ChatGPT. I asked it to write an explainer post for my website in the style of Malcolm Gladwell. As part of this week’s podcast, I had ChatGPT co-produce it with me. It came up with script suggestions. I asked it to help me write an explainer companion post for the website. I did not really like the first one it wrote, and so I tried asking for different types of articles, asking for a particular style(witty, snarky, etc) or well know writers (Bill Simmons, Malcolm Gladwell). The below is the one by Gladwell, which I liked the best. I have made no edits.

The battle over Covid-19 vaccine mandates is raging in America. In an ironic turn of events, many conservatives who opposed the vaccine and mandates have taken to using the phrase "my body, my choice" in the fight to stay vaccine free. Conservative talk show host, Dan Bongino, who is vaccinated, tells viewers to stop 'capitulating to the left' by giving up their rights to make individual medical decisions. He recently said on Fox News: "My body is mine. It was given to me by God. It was not and is not a ward of the state. I will determine what goes in it." Is he right that people should not be subject to vaccine mandates? And what about the use of the phrase "my body, my choice", is it appropriate here? And how far are we willing to take this?
